Urban Farming Certificate Program

Objective:  The objective of this program is to educate students interested in starting or improving existing farming practice on small property.  The curriculum is focused on best small farming practices and business and marketing application in addition to creating a business plan.  Students will receive practical information and training that will allow for immediate cultivation on their property which will produce increased produce and increased economic potential.

Occupation:  Beginner small scale farmer/producer, farm worker, grower, agriculture equipment technician, agriculture specialist, animal husbandry, beekeeping, aqua culturist, aquaponics, seedling cultivatist and horticulturist.

Prerequisite:  No previous knowledge or experience needed.

Course Description

Urban Farming Certificate Program

  • UFC100 Agriculture Marketing 25 Clock Hrs

In this course students will consider the continuing changes and variations that confront a rural business.  Students will cover a variety of concepts and strategies aimed at focusing on unique markets, and how to capitalize on market forces to maximize business profit.

  • UFC101 Starting a Small Business       25 Hrs

This course will help students with a step by step process covering planning, book keeping, customer communication, and more, which will help the student maximize their chance of success.  Ideal for students starting out, new business consultants, or those wanting to review the general running of an established business.

  • UFC102 Hydroponics Management 25 Hrs

This course offers an environmentally friendly, high tech way of growing more plants in less space.  This course is aimed at people who want to work in the hydroponic industry, set up a small commercial venture or pursue it as a serious hoppy.

  • UFC103 Self Sufficiency 25 Hrs

This course will provide structure to reduce reliance on goods and services supplied by others.  To become semi self-sufficient will depend on how much students are prepared to compromise their current lifestyle.  Students will analyze potential changes in lifestyle to increase a level of self-sufficiency.

  • UFC104 Aquaponics      25 Hrs

In this course students will integrate hydroponics with aquaculture technologies.  Students will use horticultural process of growing plants in mediums other than soil.

  • UFC105 Nursery Growers Course       25 Hrs

This course is dedicated to the importance of building knowledge of plants.  Students will learn how many established nurseries have started out slowly as a small part time operation and how they can follow the same path.
